Link baiting is when you release content like themes, articles, eBooks, graphics, etc. and in exchange you get a link back to your site on..
1. Releasing Downloads/Freebies
A specific resource such you release on your site. What you release on the site is determined by what your site is about.
2. Be the one to break the news
If something huge has happened, be the first to report it. Natural disasters, web disasters, anything juicy. Being the first to report it has it’s rewards (traffic, your link being posted on other sites as reference, etc).
3. Start some contests
If you can hold a contest with a unique idea behind it, and an amazing prize then your contest will be noticed. People can post your link around if you’re doing something like a referral contest.
4. Interviews & Reviews
If you know someone who is either well known on the web or in real life, try to get an interview. If you can get some behind the scene information, the backlinks will be pouring in.
Reviewing new products that are popular will not only help the product, but bring links to your blog. If your review is good enough, possibly submit it to the owner of the product you reviewed and see if you can’t get a link on their site to it.
5. Get down and dirty
When I say that, I’m talking exposing scams, attack another webmaster and more. What’s a little controversy going to do for your blog? Bring in links? I think so.
6. Posting opinions on strong topics
If you see a blog with a ‘powerful’ or ‘well known’ person and you happen to be in the same niche as them, post something about it. You can either add on to their post by writing your own post, or you can disagree with their statements. Going back to tip #5, if you can come up with an idea on why they’re wrong and you’re right, people will be reading your posts and giving your link to others for their opinion on the issue.
7. Appealing pictures
If you like to incorporate pictures into your blog posts, try to make them interesting. This isn’t the most powerful link baiting type, but if you can make something appealing to the eye then you can make an impact.
Once you have used some of those tricks, you need to pass your link around. Even with all these awesome ways to link bait, it’s useless if you don’t have any traffic. If you use these tricks right, you can turn 40 readers a day into 400 readers a day.
